I tried not to make the same face I did with Olivia, but it didn't work. "Yes, my sister informed me of his possible interest..." I said, glancing over at him and noticing his displeasure. I smiled slightly, knowing he would rather me be dancing with him now, but he had his chance to ask me when we met. Of course, I would say I wasn't feeling well and get out of it. "I can almost assure you my father will find that out and run to arrange a marriage as if I were some prize to be won. I'm sorry, that wasn't right for me to say. I suppose whomever my father has me marry will be the right man..." I said. I often talked with my siblings about how unfair women were treated, but it wasn't right to say in front of James. I had a terrible feeling I had said the wrong thing, and couldn't bring myself to look up at him.

I smiled sadly down at her. "Maybe someone will swoop in and steal you away before he has the chance to GIVE you away." I said, trying to keep her hopeful. I didn't like seeing her so sad. I held her closer and contiued our dance into another song. I noticed Beckett's face get even more sour as he noticed we were still swaying together. I wondered briefly if she would consider marrying me. I knew I had no chance with Elizabeth, the only woman I desired. So here was this beautiful woman that wanted to get out of marrying someone I would love to royally piss off. It seemed like the perfect opportunity.

I let out a small squeak and felt my face get red once more when he pulled me closer. With my heels, I reached eye level with his chin, so I placed my head on his shoulder. "Is this alright? Am I being too forward?" I asked. It just felt like the right thing to do, seeing as he was holding me so close and it was a slower song. "That would be lovely if it happened, me not being forced into a marriage." I said. Anyone would be better than marrying Beckett, who was now trying to look happy as he talked with people, but I noticed he still stole glances over at James and I.

I smirked down at her. "It's absolutely fine, dear." I assured her, happy to have her feel more comfortable. I didn't miss the blush and wondered if I had a chance with her after all. "Maybe I'll talk to your father, myself." I added, hoping she would take notice what I was hinting at. I also noticed the looks Beckett was giving us and merely smirked, glad my plan was working.

I had closed my eyes and was enjoying just swaying with James until he mentioned talking to my father. "My... my father? About what? I mean, surely you... oh, I can't breathe." I said, picking up on what he was talking about. Or at least, what I hoped he was hinting at. My heart had begun pounding wildly and my breathing matched, and suddenly the corset was getting in the way. "But, Co... James, surely you can't be serious! I am... oh, I don't even know what I am right now." I said, feeling like a complete idiot.

I grinned as she studdered and nearly fainted. I held her close and continued dancing with her. "Well, I wouldn't want to force you into anything. If you have no interest in marriage to myself, I wouldn't push it." I teased, a smirk adorning my face. She was still red in the face from my awkward proposition.

"No! I do! I do, it's just... oh, where are my words now!" I said, feeling incredibly stupid I wasn't able to talk. I always thought my marriage proposal would go differently, not with a man I had barely spoken to and while we were dancing. But, since James was so attractive I wasn't going to say no. "James, I just..." I said, putting my arms around his waist and hugging him, earning annoyed looks from those dancing around us as I almost knocked into them.

I chuckled, taken aback as she hugged me. I embraced her and moved her off the dance floor as to not bother the other couples. "Is that a yes?" I asked, grinning down at her. I glanced at her sister and noticed her smirking and shaking her head in amusment.

I took a deep breath before answering. "Yes!" I said, tears coming to my eyes. "All along I thought you barely noticed me." I said with a chuckle. I couldn't wait to get back to Olivia and tell her, although by her expression I'm pretty sure she knew already.

I grimaced. "That was because my attention was otherwise preoccupied." I said, glancing at Elizabeth. "But I'm over that now. I want you. And I will properly propose after asking your father's permission." I assured her, and kissed her hand. "Go talk to your sister, I'm sure you're dying to tell her the news. But only her for now, I want to talk to your father first."

"James, I don't even know what to say..." I said, wiping my eyes. "Yes, of course. Only Olivia will know, I promise. Please, talk to my father now before he gets any other ideas." I said, and straightened my dress and smiled at him.

I grinned at her and kissed her hand. "I'll come talk to you soon alright." I said and walked away to find her father.

I stared at my hand for a few seconds after he left, and then ran over to Olivia. "You will never guess what happened!" I said, pulling her off to the side of the room, where no one was standing. "He asked me to marry him!" I said, tears springing up again. I just couldn't believe it! "He went to talk to father about it now, so you're the only one that can know."

My eyes went wide. I hadn't expected it to happen so soon. "That's great, Grace!!" I said, excitedly as I hugged her. "Oh this is so exciting!! I'm going to help you plan everything and it's going to be the most beautiful wedding ever!!"

"I couldn't breathe once I figured out what he was trying to say! Oh, and Lord Beckett's face! I wish you could have seen how upset he was when James was holding me close.... oh my god Olivia, I'm getting married!" I said, trying to quiet down. "Father will give him his blessings, right? He has to..." I said, beginning to doubt my father.
