Here's a little short story I wrote the other day. Hope you like it.
She sat on the ledge of the balcony with a glass in her hand as she stared out into the water, watching the slow waves crash together. She had so much pain on her mind and in her heart that she could literally feel what was left of her heart tearing. She brushed her dark hair out of her eyes as a tear fell down her cheek and took a long drink.
It had been too long. Nearly a year since she had seen him. He was her best friend, her partner, and her reason to live. But he was gone now. He had been gone so long. She was beginning to lose any hope in life and had no will to continue. Sure she had money, a great family, and the dearest friends she could ever ask for. But it all meant nothing without him.
She had reread his last letter over and over again, always hoping she had read it wrong. All the while she knew before he had even sent it that it would be coming. Unfortunately for him, he didn't have what she had. All he had was his money. And her: the most important thing in his life. He couldn't bear it when they were forcefully separated. It literally killed him.
Holding his letter in her hand, reading it one last time, all she could do was cry the remainder of her tears. The letter had been an explanation of the personal death sentence he had given to himself for allowing the distance between them grow so tremendously, for leaving her on her on, and for causing her to lose hope in anything but him. While she understood his decision, she would never agree with it and knew there was no way she ever would.
So, she decided her fate, with a deep, heavy breath, knowing it was the only way to get past him. The only thing that bothered her was that it had taken her this long. She drained the remains of the dark liquid in her glass and set it aside, along with the letter. She merely whispered his name as she swung her legs over the edge, letting herself fall into the depths of the water to join him, holding onto her most prized possession: a heart shaped locket with his promise carved into it. Forever yours, my lasting love.
