I shrugged. "I guess I just knew I didn't want to live that life anymore. And if I were married to a navy man....I'd be stuck there. I'd rather be out on the sea, enjoying the waves and the wind and the freedom of it. How many wives of navy men get to go out on sea?" I asked rhetorically. I wanted her to understand why it was a big deal to me.

I wrinkled my nose. I could deal with the smell of the sea while at home--we lived on an island, it was part of the environment--but out here on the open sea that's all there was, if you were lucky enough to get away from the sailors. Seriously, how often did they bathe on this ship... "I suppose I can understand that. I think I need to be out here longer, see what's so great about living on a ship before I can judge."

I smiled. "I don't know if it'll ever be for you. Which is why we'll find a home we can live in. And men why actually want to marry." I said as we continued scrubbing. I was happy to get away from land for a while but I knew eventually she would want to settle down instead of always sailing and working.

I shrugged. "I keep thinking how I could have had that today. Good lord, today was supposed to be my wedding day. I wonder what mother will think when she goes to wake me and I am not there." I said, staring at my hands. I stopped scrubbing and sat up straighter. "Do you know what this will do to my posture, being down on all fours like a dog?"

I laughed a little louder than intended and I got some stares for it. I realized my voice sounded a little like a giggle just then and I chewed on my lip. "Just imagine how hard this all would be in a corset." I teased quietly.

*skipping because i can't think of anything else...*
By the time we reached Tortuga, one of the places Beckett told me about in his rant against pirates, my hands were sore and I had bruises on my knees from kneeling so much. My nails were chipping, and I had tiny cuts on my fingers and hands. "I need to go somewhere nicer now." I said as we sailed into port.

(lol i knew it was coming)
I smiled at my sister as we took a break from working. We learned sometime yesterday that we were making a stop at Tortuga and I hadn't yet informed her that's where we were getting off. "Do you know anything about Tortuga?" I asked her curiously as I took a bite from an apple, the only food I'd had all day.

I shrugged as I looked to the city. "Yes. Cutler spoke of it a lot. He said it's filled with prostitutes and... and pirates." I said, closing my eyes as if that would make the pirates in the port disappear. "I do hope this place is a quick stop. I never thought I would be excited about scrubbing floors again." I said, rubbing my hands together. They still hurt.

I sighed. "We're getting off in Tortuga, Lillian. The less time we spend on one ship at a time, the better." I said, hoping she wouldn't make a scene. We still had to keep ourselves disguised.

I stared at her with wide eyes and tried not to yell. "What?" I hissed, crossing my arms. "Why? Anna, nothing good will come from staying in Tortuga! Cutler said women like me... they aren't treated very nicely. If we're found out..." I said, and cut myself off, not wanting to think of that.

I sighed. "Screw, Culter!" I muttered in response. "We won't be found out. And I told you, nothing will happen to you while I'm around. I won't let you leave my sight. We will only be there for a little while. We'll find another ship and be off, alright?" I grasped her hand to comfort her.

((nothin's gonna harm you, not when i'm around... sorry, it made me think of that XD))
I nodded, holding her hand tightly. "Alright... I hope so. We're not even off the ship and I'm ready to swim away. Have you been here before?" I asked, fearing for the answer.

(( lol. love that movie...))
I pursed my lips and nodded. "I was here for a while actually but fortunately, no one really bothered me. I had a few men who thought they could use me for their own needs but someone stood up for me." I said, remembering a man that threatened a couple of drunks that tried to rape me. I thanked him and never saw him again. But I would never forget him.

I smiled. "I just hope there's a man with that much honour in the city now." I said, and looked at the town as we docked. I looked around me, trying to see how the men left the ship. "Is there somewhere I can bathe here? I want to get the smell of this ship off of me."

I chuckled. "I believe there is, yes. We can get a room for the night and wash up before setting off in the morning, same plan as before." I explained and motioned for her to follow me on deck. I could see Tortuga in the distance. "Who knows, maybe you'll find yourself falling for a pirate while we're there." I teased with a smirk.
